Welcomed at Plymouth’s (UK) coach station by Julian, to give a workshop a few hours later. A couple of hours were available to tour historic Plymouth. First a visit of the exact spot where Pocahontas set foot before her tragic departure back to America. She died a day later, to be returned to Plymouth for burial.
Next a fast walk through the harbour region that was practically flattened by bombing raids during the second world war. Lastly ….”Roy, let’s visit the peace-park before you give the teachings. It will only take less than ten minutes” …. was Julian’s suggestion
The garden was indeed beautiful. We walked back, fast to the car …. to find out that everything in it was stolen!
My first reaction was, “what’s next Roy. Something better you can expect. Now you have become super-light”. Indeed, even my address-book was gone, passport and all the ceremonial tools. The sacred drum, pipe and the weaving staff that was just entrusted to me.
The best thing left to do was to report the theft to the police, so that a new passport could be acquired.
We arrived at the venue, on time. The welcome was warm and soon I was fully focused on the presentation. The inspiration I received was extraordinary and the theft was not on mind at all.
Then a telephone call came from the police station. “We found all your belongings plus the ones who broke into the car are now in jail ….Total silence. Every one in the audience who knew of what happened was amazed.
A deep thought came. I remembered my vision quest, where I fully detached myself from all my belongings, to know that I can actually do it. All came back and much more. This incident I saw as a test and reminder, of the mindset that made me quite free. Another thought was added. “Roy be careful, you still have the responsibility to take care of the Medicine. Your journey is not over yet”.
To me the whole experience was the “second gift” …. to know that I can still let go of the things that are dearest to my heart.
Then, how did the police found the stolen luggage? A woman was intensely watching out of her window, looking for the ambulance she called for, She broke her arm. Then two men jumped out of a car and hurriedly dropped luggage in a dumpster. It looked suspicious, The woman wrote down the car’s licence plate
number and called the police. Five minutes later the men were arrested. They were primarily interested in drugs and money. The Medicine was none of their interest …. or was the Medicine under spirit protection?
